MMF Annual Orchestra Concerts for Schools
 |
Each fall as part of MMF's annual Chamber Orchestra Tour, we present two concerts at Manchester's First Congregational Church free of charge to local school children. The 45-minute concerts are a fun-filled musical journey where children learn about orchestral instruments, classical music and composers. The concerts, conducted by Ariel Rudiakov, attract between 500 and 600 children from as many as twelve area schools each year. Children participate in a lively discussion of each piece and a few lucky students are given an opportunity to conduct the orchestra. We welcome home-schooled children to attend our concerts. |

Our 2012 School Concerts were held on Thursday, September 27nd with a special presentation by the Manchester Music Festival Piano Quintet featuring Adam Neiman, piano; Joana Genova and David Lisker, violins; Ariel Rudiakov, viola; Benjamin Capps, cello. The musicians played movements of piano quintets by Russian composer Anton Arensky and Italian-American composer Vittorio Giannini, describing the Romantic style. One of the highlights was Adam Neiman performing his own virtuosic composition for solo-piano; "Etude-Caprice".
About 500 students from Manchester, Dorset, Sunderland, Shaftsbury, Londonderry and Bennington attended the concerts.
